HORT6033: Genetic Techniques in Plant Breeding
Germplasm development and cultivar improvement for vegetable crops such as spinach and cowpea. Using next generation sequencing (NGS) such as GBS (genotyping by sequencing), RAD-seq (Restriction Site Associated DNA sequencing), and RNA-seq (whole transcriptome sequencing) for SNP discovery and QTL identification. Applying marker-assisted selection (QTL-based, SNP-based, and genome-wide) to breeding programs in spinach, cowpea, edamame and other crops.
General Areas of Interest:
Germplasm development and cultivar improvement for vegetable crops; molecular breeding including QTL analysis, marker identification and marker-assisted selection; and predictive breeding (QTL-based and genome -wide) in crops.
