ABOUT THE CLASS

The Greenhouse Container Crops course, taught by Dr. Ryan Dickson, is designed to equip students with the technical and practical skills required for success in the commercial production and management of floriculture container crops. Students engage in a series of hands-on and experiential learning activities throughout the semester, culminating in the production and sale of Christmas poinsettias and other fall ornamental crops. In the process, they learn what it takes to produce high-quality plants as well as how to make smart and data-driven production and marketing decisions.

This course also promotes student awareness and exposure to the Green Industry (i.e.,
ornamental flowering, nursery, potted, and landscape plants) in Arkansas and beyond. Locally and across the U.S., the Green Industry is a significant horticultural sector that
offers many exciting job opportunities and career paths for students.

 

 

 

 

 

 

ADDITIONAL PLANTS

Looking for more than just holiday poinsettias? Our students have been hard at work growing a wide selection of additional plants that will also be available during the sale. These plants come in a variety of container sizes and will be offered exclusively at the in-person event.

Additional plants will include:

• pansy & viola
• ornamental red kale
